I am going to homecoming tomorrow, and i wanted to know what r some long lasting curly hairstyles?

cute dress :) when i curl my hair i usually take a shower early in the morning and put it in two really tight braids and leave them in all day. then 15-20 before you leave take them out. its okay if its kinda damp and just put hairspray on it. i would leave your bangs down straight. make sure you dont brush your hair after you take them out it will mes up the curls.

I just curl my hair in layers, so i start with the bottom layer and start curling from the roots and work down to the ends. It ends in lucious ringlets =)...

- French ponytail. Put the top section of your hair (above ears) into a ponytail. Next, put the middle into a pony. Then put the bottom into a pony. This looks less kiddy if you do it looser with pretty clips.

Try a wet set for big bouncy Classic Hollywood- style curls. Set your hair on rollers with a setting lotion and then sit under a hooded dry or let your hair air-dry. Take out curlers and separate with your fingers. I too have curly frizzy hair with similar genes and this works for me.

NEVER go to sleep with your curls wet- if you must shower before going to sleep, do so a few hours before so that the hair can fully dry first and put in more gel (or whatever other holding product you use) than you would ordinarily so that your hair gets that ';crispy'; feeling. (Yeah- the one everyone's always trying to avoid.) Avoid ';scrunching'; it then until the morning, (the extra gel will have held the curls in place better and it will have loosened up by the morning.) Also, buying a pillowcase out of some satin-like material will help.
Or, if you want to waste less money on the hair product, just shower in the morning and let it air-dry. It's easier. =P

Curly hairstyles?
I have curly hair and I'm looking to cut it fairly soon. The only thing I'm worried about is the variability of styles I'll be able to do when it's short (about shoulder length when curly). I don't like to straighten my hair much so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks!Curly hairstyles?
Shoulder length is fine, with a few layers near the bottom. When it's short, it is MUCH quicker to straighten though!

When curly hair gets longer, the weight takes out some of the curl. You may end up with an afro. This is fine of course, if it's what you want.

Well I have curly hair and it's ok when it's semi short (1 or 2 inches past my shoulders) but the longer layers are trying to curl but are only slightly wavy and weird looking.

I love how it looks in the front but in the back it looks kinda discolored or a little dry probably try putting on some more mousse( the hair kind ha ha) on the back=]

you could cut your layers an inch shorter, this would work but dont do it too short because otherwise your hair will just flick out in random places! gets really annoying, i know because my hair is naturally a less curly version of yours and different colour.. haha

I let my hair dry natural and then put them in. Anyway I would cut an inch or two off your longest as I am doing next week to give them an extra bounce. Get good products and get a great hair dresser who knows what they are doing and can give you lots of great pointers. Anyway good luck!

Asymmetrical cut on curly-hair short bangs?
i have curly hair thats now shoulder length (and making me mad) would it be weird looking if it was asymmetrical and this long there would be like enuf difference for you to be able to tell
and right now i have those like nose/mouth really long bangs that don't quite fit behind your ears

With afro hair straightening it without product (not gel - a hair straightening product to protect it from the heat and serum to tame the frizz) is not a good idea. You could get your hair cut but it's not going to get rid of the afro front.
We really need a photo to see what it's really like but I'd try more product and more slim-line straighteners.
change your shampoo and conditioner to a de friz one might help a little bit, you can get creams to put in your hair when its wet to de friz it, try john frieda, it doesnt matter if its a girls stuff might work better for you. hope i helped

Alright I have jaw lenght hair that is naturally lightsly curly [loose curls] / wavy, I straighten it daily. I've been playing with the idea of cutting it even shorter, like this :

No offense hun, but that's not an attractive but no matter what your face looks like. If you do but it that short, it's still going to curl - and you'll look completely silly unless you straighten it each and every day, which is going to seriously harm your hair.

Next spring, I want to completely chop off my hair. I'm actually going to donate it... I figure that someone else can appreciate it more than I do. Anyways, I want to cut it short and possibly have long bangs... sort of a punk/cute hairstyle. That sounds simple enough, except that my hair is really curly/wavy/thick. I want some suggestions as to what I could do to get the look that I want. I figure I'm going to have to wind up using pomade or something along those lines....

I have very curly hair and a lot of experience with this area. First, find somebody who really knows how to cut curly hair - it's not the same as straight. Any stylist trained in the Deva method of cutting will give you a better cut if you are curly.
The first cut was the one I liked best. The one with short bangs will be a nightmare to style - the short bangs will shrink up to nothing during the day and look awful. The fourth style was done on rollers - is not a naturally curly cut and the other styles will also take a lot of styling to maintain.
Check out the book Curly Girl - lots of good suggestions for maintaining curly hair - BUT - don't pay too much attention or get hung up on the styles in the pictures - they are sort of dated. But, I use a lot of their techniques (including the no shampoo recommendation) and my hair does not look like those styles. But the ideas for washing, cutting and products are really useful and have changed everything for maintaining my hair. Also check out Deva products.
Straightening damaged my curly hair badly over time and is difficult to maintain. If you iron, you will spend a lot of time every day on it and damage it; if you chemically straighten, it will grow out curly at the roots and look strange. The best thing I ever did was go back to curly and learn how to care for it.

If you wash your hair after your shower if you put some conditioner in and then some mouse or styling product. Syle your hair and let it dry naturally. Everybody loves curls so enjoy them. I like my hair parted on the side and air dryed. Also highlights look great with curly hair.

- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!
- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel, a leave in cream, and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).
-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.
- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are examples). Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.
- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Make sure gel is evenly distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you can always scrunch out the crunchy texture later.
- Use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch some of the water out (generic towels can make hair frizz). You can either let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!
- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores) or Activate Hydrating Conditioner (drugstore). The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Texturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel or Body Envy Gel, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites. The products I recommended are my personal favorites and contain no silicones.
- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This may take a couple weeks to begin working. Before you decide to quit shampoo, do a final cleanse with shampoo and stop the use of any products with silicones in them. Hope this helps!

Probably more expensive than you'd like, but ';Bed Head'; products are wonderful. Dumb Blonde or Brunette Goddess are nice, or Moisture Maniac is good, too. Salons carry this brand. The reason that a lot of cheaper products make your hair feel silky to begin with, but don't keep doing it is because they have a lot of wax in them, and it builds up on your hair. Hope this helps. Also, try getting a deep conditioning treatment at your salon once in a while- that should help it stay more smooth.
Herbal essensce Totally Twisted Shampoo and conditioner about $3 each.
I have curly thick hair and it kills the frizz and makes it look ringletly and perfect. ( my hairs chin lenghth-ish)
Also for the occastional jolt of curlyness i recomend Wash and Curl shampoo. ( $2.50) It makes it look all freshly permed
On the cheaper end ( aka decent and very cheap ) Vo5 Extra Body shampoo and conditioner ( $0.97 ea!!!)

you should try pantene.. for curls.. this shampoo and conditioner make your hair soft and very easy to detangle..

I've become a big fan of the new line that herbal essences has come out. They have one in an orange bottle called none of your frizziness, and i love it. i have very thick hair and it is kinda short. Its about $3 a bottle and sometimes less. I think they also have one for curly hair, and it is a purple bottle.
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine...all products, i.e. shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, smooothing milk, straightening serum....I love all of these products. They work great for me!
- Read the book and visit the sites below about curly hair. I did and my once horrible curly hair is now virtually frizz-free ringlets. Now I get compliments on my hair all the time! Straighten your hair- be happy for a day, learn to manage your curly hair- be happy for life!
- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel, a leave in cream, and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).
-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.
- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are examples). Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.
- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Make sure gel is evenly distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you can always scrunch out the crunchy texture later.
- Use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch some of the water out (generic towels can make hair frizz). You can either let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!
- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores) or Activate Hydrating Conditioner (drugstore). The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Texturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel or Body Envy Gel, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites. The products I recommended are my personal favorites and contain no silicones.
- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This may take a couple weeks to begin working. Before you decide to quit shampoo, do a final cleanse with shampoo and stop the use of any products with silicones in them. Hope this helps!

Probably more expensive than you'd like, but ';Bed Head'; products are wonderful. Dumb Blonde or Brunette Goddess are nice, or Moisture Maniac is good, too. Salons carry this brand. The reason that a lot of cheaper products make your hair feel silky to begin with, but don't keep doing it is because they have a lot of wax in them, and it builds up on your hair. Hope this helps. Also, try getting a deep conditioning treatment at your salon once in a while- that should help it stay more smooth.
Herbal essensce Totally Twisted Shampoo and conditioner about $3 each.
I have curly thick hair and it kills the frizz and makes it look ringletly and perfect. ( my hairs chin lenghth-ish)
Also for the occastional jolt of curlyness i recomend Wash and Curl shampoo. ( $2.50) It makes it look all freshly permed
On the cheaper end ( aka decent and very cheap ) Vo5 Extra Body shampoo and conditioner ( $0.97 ea!!!)

I usually alternate washings btwn VO5 and Herbal Essence, since I'm on a massive budget and it helps it all last longer/go further.
Ps I've tried the $$$ salon stuff too , I actually prefer Herbal essence to it. It smells good too!
you should try pantene.. for curls.. this shampoo and conditioner make your hair soft and very easy to detangle..

I've become a big fan of the new line that herbal essences has come out. They have one in an orange bottle called none of your frizziness, and i love it. i have very thick hair and it is kinda short. Its about $3 a bottle and sometimes less. I think they also have one for curly hair, and it is a purple bottle.
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine...all products, i.e. shampoo, conditioner, leave in conditioner, smooothing milk, straightening serum....I love all of these products. They work great for me!

How hard is it to maintain a short straight hairstyle with semi curly hair? I plan on using a flat iron but not sure how well it works with really short hair. Also any haircut ideas would be great. i did that, but no matter how much you striaghten, because your hair will be resting on your shoulders one of the sides will flip out..
it's annoying. there is less options with style. i have wavy/curly hair and i cut it and now im goriwng it back.

I can understand wanting to cut and donate it, but let me warn you that once you take all that weight off your hair it's gonna get a LOT curlier. You can either use a straightening iron or take the other person's suggestion and have layers put in it. Personally I like the straightening iron cuz it works great and makes your hair much easier to deal with. My hair's the same way, and I straighten it twice a week. Talk to a stylist and see what they recommend before you do anything. Good luck! One more thing, if you use the straightening iron, be sure to use a protectant spray or cream of some kind to keep your hair from getting fried by all that heat. are you or have you been under stress? you could also be putting too much protein in your hair. this makes it hard and brittle. also you can try the nioxin shampoo and conditioner, it helps to regrow hair. if you buy it at your local salon and don't like it you can take it bak and get your money. also for the dry and britteness, you can try the all soft shampoo and conditioner by redken. its wonderful. i would go to your local salon and talk with a stylist face to face so she can question you and put her hands in your hair. watch out for the ones that are just after a check though, they will try to sell you all sorts of things you don't need, if they don't mention one of the products that i have, walk out and go to the next salon, cuz they are just after a check and don't really care about your hair. hope this helps

well they same thing happened to me and the stylest said it could be because of split ends or dry hair there is this shampoo aussie i pretty sure youve heard of it its great!!!!!
are you or have you been under stress? you could also be putting too much protein in your hair. this makes it hard and brittle. also you can try the nioxin shampoo and conditioner, it helps to regrow hair. if you buy it at your local salon and don't like it you can take it bak and get your money. also for the dry and britteness, you can try the all soft shampoo and conditioner by redken. its wonderful. i would go to your local salon and talk with a stylist face to face so she can question you and put her hands in your hair. watch out for the ones that are just after a check though, they will try to sell you all sorts of things you don't need, if they don't mention one of the products that i have, walk out and go to the next salon, cuz they are just after a check and don't really care about your hair. hope this helps

I mean easy hair styles like ponytails, hair pulled back at the crown, pig tails, etc.
I have naturally super straight long hair and have no time to heat style it with my schedule. So I just wanna leave it natural and work with my straight hair.
Just an FYI I don't like layers. I personally prefer to keep my hair all one length. (It's pretty thick and looks terrible with layers.) I'm also not really into bangs either. It's a ery simple cut.

Not layers but a little different lengths for volume. I blow dry upside down. I've had many compliments looks like I'm styling it now where always just looked plain before. Okay, so for spirit week at my school, we're having a ';Blast from the Past'; day. So I'm using some of my mom's old absolutely ginormous glasses. I wanted to attempt to do my hair in some crazy oldies style with super volume or an insanely puffed out bun, but I really have no idea how to do these hair styles. So if anyone could either explain, send links / pictures, or suggest other hairstyles, I'd be super happy.

Or pull all your hair up to the top of our head, fasten with a hair elastic, and twist it into an old-lady-schoolteacher bun right at the top of your head. You'll need a handful of really long, strong hairpins, plus a few bobby pins and some hair spray to corral the wisps near your neckline.
