Curly hairstyles and cuts?

I have medium sized, medium length curly hair. The curls themselves are about an inch in diameter and can get kind of volume-ey. My hair, when straight goes down about halfway between my elbow and shoulder. It curls up to about 3 inches below my shoulders. I have it cut with one long layer and one shorter layer. Te shorter layer goes to between chin and shoulder level.



My problem is that my hair gets very big. It's not frizzy, it just has lots of volume. I don't like it like that, so I usually put it up. Which leads to my other problem: I have very little I can do with it. I can do a ponytail, bun, half-up, and that's really about it. I don't like to braid it because the braid itself curls (and I run out of hair because of the shorter layer).



I love having long hair, but I hate never wearing it down and always wearing the same style. Any ideas for long-ish cuts that I could do and/or hair styles?
